LTK ENGINEERING SERVICES, one of the nation's most respected consultants to the railroad and rail transit industries, currently has an immediate opening in our Brooklyn, NY Office for the position listed below.  Candidates must possess broad-based knowledge of mechanical engineering (Kinematics and Dynamics; Materials, Pneumatics, Hydraulics and HVAC) and familiarity with most aspects of electrical engineering; excellent written and oral communications skills, and the ability work well in a team.  A PE registration is desirable but not required.  Where appropriate, relevant professional experience will be considered as a substitute for academic degree requirements.  Extensive travel, both domestic and foreign, is required.

 

SENIOR RAIL VEHICLE MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Minimum Qualifications:  A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and 10 years of rail vehicle experience.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review design submittals and prepare detailed descriptions of review findings.

  • Participate in formal design review meetings and technical working sessions.

  • Inspect and review prototype and first article equipment and prepare detailed descriptions of review findings.

  • Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits.

  • Witness electro-mechanical equipment undergoing qualification testing, including; shock and vibration, environmental, electrical stress, and functional testing.

  • Forensic investigation of failed components and equipment and reporting findings.

  • Develop technical specifications for electro-mechanical equipment.

Minimum requirements:  BS degree in engineering or a related field and 5-10 years of related experience.  Work experience and knowledge of AC and DC traction power system design may be substituted for degree requirements.  Background experience should include design of 600/750 volt DC rail transit traction power substations, including switchgear, transformers, rectifiers, and overhead catenary/third rail distribution systems.  Location:  Los Angeles, CA; Denver, CO; Portland, OR or Seattle, WA.

Responsibilities include: developing systems level designs for a central control system, communications applications involving fiber optics, SONET, telephony, CCTV, audio systems, data communications networks, and integrated communications control systems; development of conceptual designs and contract documents sufficient to allow a qualified contractor to design and build state-of-the-art communications networks for various clients, primarily public transit agencies.  Work includes established design criteria, writing of specifications, preparation of cost estimates and reviewing contractor’s submittals.  The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, capable of carrying out responsibilities with a minimum of supervision.   Location:  Seattle, WA

CAD DRAFTER

 

You will work with professional engineers in layout and design of the following railroad systems:

 

  • Track
  • Communications
  • Signals
  • Cable and Ductwork
  • Overhead Contact
  • Traction Power
  • Electrical schematics
  • Rolling Stock

 

The successful candidate will be required to produce engineering drawings for incorporation into large Contract Drawing packages.  The drafter will also coordinate with other CAD operators on similar work in other LTK offices.  The successful applicant will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and have at least 5-10 years of experience using AutoCAD and/or Microstation.   Experience with Microstation and knowledge of “Projectwise” on complex projects is also essential.  An AA degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting and Design Technology or other related field is preferred, but not essential.  Excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to work in a team environment are essential.
