Review of the Corrosion Control Program Plan and the Stray Current/Corrosion Control O&M Manual for the DART LRT Project to evaluate the existing track-to-earth resistance testing procedures to determine the adequacy of the program and suggest alternative testing methods. The review showed no procedures for troubleshooting low track-to-earth resistance, so a testing procedure was created to add on as an addendum to the Stray Current/Corrosion Control O&M Manual. Created an equipment list for all equipment required for track-to-earth resistance testing, stray current monitoring, and troubleshooting procedures.

Review of submittal packages for corrosion control systems for the Cherry Creek and 15th Street Bridges. Responsible for a review of corrosion control design (by others) for the 36” diameter PCCP water main to ensure RTD’s satisfaction with the design.  Participating in the Transportation Expansion Project which consists of approximately 19-miles of Light Rail Transit; Prepared a soil study for the new Elati Maintenance Facility that will accommodate approximately 100-light rail vehicles. Conducted a review of corrosion control specification sections to create a schedule for the systematic review of the corrosion control materials and installation; reviewed of corrosion control inspection reports for the corrosion control facilities installed as part of the TREX Project; In-situ soil resistivity measurements taken at the proposed traction power substation locations for the four-car expansion project.

West Corridor – Performance of in-situ soil resistivity measurements along the proposed alignment.  Stray Current Simulation modeling of the proposed alignment and associated traction power design.  Quality Control of cathodic protection design calculations and associated detail drawings.

East Corridor – Performance of in-situ soil resistivity measurements at the proposed traction power and switching stations. Corrosion control cost estimate created for the initial design.

Airport MAX Light Rail Transit

Performed testing on the Airport MAX LRT Project, including the 5.5-mile extension of the existing Light Rail Transit system. Track-to-earth and rail-to-rail resistance testing and troubleshooting of low resistance trackwork sections was performed for this extension project. A baseline stray current study was conducted on underground utilities and transit structures including bridges and ground mats at traction power substations. A revenue stray current study and integrated testing has recently been performed to evaluate stray current levels along the right-of-way; also assisted in the preparation of corrosion control design drawings for the Interstate MAX LRT Project and the preparation of a soil study along the proposed right-of-way. Performed QA/QC checks of drawings and specifications for the project; performed an evaluation of the baseline stray current study performed on buried utility structures along the right-of-way.  Reviewed submittal packages for corrosion control items for the project.  Performed corrosion control evaluation of the stray current monitoring program for the Westside MAX LRT; Program consists of 24 hour voltage recordings at utility test stations.  Reviewed testing procedures and made recommendations as to an alternative test plan.

Metro LRT Project including corrosion control drawings for area utilities; Reviewed drawings and specifications and prepared a report for laboratory analysis of soil samples. Authored a report detailing the design of the multiple galvanic anode cathodic protection systems for utilities along the right-of-way with detailed design calculations for each structure; Prepared design reports along with detail drawings for the corrosion control systems associated with the Brays Bayou Bridge and the Main Street Bridge design packages. The corrosion control systems consist of track slab electrical continuity with embedded monitoring facilities and low resistance groundmats for the dispersion of stray traction current. Reviewed submittal packages from contractors concerning the corrosion control materials and installation procedures for the project; Performed stray current analysis of the system using computer simulation modeling techniques; performed track-to-earth resistance testing along the embedded portion of the right-of-way.  Additionally tested the track slab electrical continuity and measured current flow along the track slab; performed a revenue stray current study on buried utilities along the alignment.
